Berry/Baker Library:
Dartmouth College
Hanover, New Hampshire
Assignment
Review architectural plans for restoration of existing structure and its expansion and recommend wayfinding strategies.

Implementation

The firms of Shepley Bullfinch Richardson and Abbott and Venturi Scott Brown teamed to design an expanded main library for
Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

The addition to the existing 1928 building posed many critical wayfinding challenges.

Catt Lyon Design prepared a wayfinding needs assessment which articulated all the potential wayfinding problems library patrons might encounter, as well as potential solutions to those problems.

This document also included destination maps which clarified destinations and pathways, a sign hierarchy which ranked sign types in order of importance and photographs of existing historic signage elements to be preserved.
